Lenovo Vibe B review
Lenovo Vibe B review: THE DEVICE
A device with “Android face”; This describes the Lenovo Vibe B well. It has a very classic front, with black frame and three touch keys below the screen.
The back of the device simulates a unibody structure, the plastic cover being completely removable, exposing the dual SIM card and microSD card.
That way we have an appliance with approx. 10mm thick at 146g, with an “OK” footprint, with no positive or negative notes about it.
Lenovo Vibe B review: Key specifications and release date
Running the Android (Marshmallow) 6.0, we have in the device used in our tests a Mediatek MT6735 Chipset with the following specifications:
– CPU 1.0 GHz Quad-core
– GPU Mali-T720 GPU
– 1GB RAM
– 8GB storage box. Internal (with microSD support)
– Bluetooth 4.0
– WiFi b / g / n
Lenovo Vibe B review: DISPLAY AND MULTIMEDIA
In front of Vibe B, we have a 4.5 “TFT LCD screen (running at 854×480 resolution, closing at about 218ppi of density).
With the numbers, it is clear that the display of this device does not aim to break any record, nor offer above the minimum to display images on your screen. The resolution of 480p will accompany you in the videos you watch there.
During our tests, we noticed that (besides the low resolution) there is a strong silver reflection on the colors, thus making strange mixtures in the shades that compose the scenes, distorting some of the colors.
The visual fatigue that this screen causes is very pronounced, and in a short time, you can feel it. The more silvery the scene is, the stronger the feeling.
In summary, the screen is not the strong point of the device, staying below the minimum we see as “acceptable” for day to day.
On the same level as the unit, the loudspeaker is followed. It is simple and offers basic quality sound only. The unit tends to “choke” some frequencies of sound to avoid distortions with wheezing and is able to hold (within its limitation) the reproduction of the sounds it plays.
It’s positioning on the back of the smartphone also makes the whole experience less interesting, but it avoids more easily the smothering of the lower position of the device, which many brands adopt.
Lenovo Vibe B review: USABILITY
Lenovo knows that pure Android is the way, just remember that it controls Motorola. However, for the Vibe line, the manufacturer loosens up a little more and ends up putting his heavier hands on the software.
You can notice the proprietary icon pack in the interface, plus configuration changes and add a huge bar of shortcuts at the top. It is not torturous, but there is the “Lenovo finger” by the Vibe system.
Lenovo Vibe B review: PERFORMANCE
No extras, only with the handset offering the basics. That’s Vibe’s proposal, and that’s it. When using it, it is clear that despite the low-cost concept, it is a clear mistake to only use 1GB RAM on an Android device, since the system is fat and needs minimal hardware recommended not to give a headache.
Our statement gets stronger with the presence of a multitasker “cleaner”, which basically kills everything that is running (in a desperate attempt to get more memory). Of course, it does not work, and it still temporarily breaks down some programs that need to stay functional in the background.
Accompanying this low performance, we have the CPU + GPU KIT, which in the sum of everything … well, you know what we are going to say. No games.
Most of the titles will run with some notable restriction, others are unfeasible to run in the model. A basic device, as expected, made for social networks and almost nothing else.
Worth another thing: it’s only 8GB of internal storage. This further impacts the performance of all of the above, since you will always run out of internal memory, clogging processes, and stopping some apps.
Even if you only use WhatsApp, it’s a very low capacity. Want an example? Look at your WhatsApp media folder right now. It is one of the easiest to achieve 1GB. And in the case of Vibe B, about 4GB will be the free space you’ll actually be dealing with, after all, Android itself takes up memory.
Lenovo Vibe B review: CAMERAS
Equipping the Vibe B, we have a 5MP camera at the rear and 2MP at the front. For videos, we have 720p resolution on the rear camera and 480p on the front.
We do not need to say too much about them. Despite the MPs, it seems pretty much like you’ve been dealing with VGA cameras eight years ago at some point, with the feeling that some of the photos are “out of focus” after they’ve been taken, whether due to processing, sensor sensitivity or Even in the absence of resolution.
In average catch, the result is usually a little higher, just making the pixel composition of photos clear, regardless of the size you view the photo.
Without delays, there is two sensors “twist”, to say that there is a camera in the cell. The highest quality catches will be those that have a sunny day, a condition where even a potato can make good photos.
Lenovo Vibe B review: BATTERY AND ACCESSORIES
For a small smartphone, a small battery. In the case of Vibe B is 2000 mAh, value below the “ideal” of 3000 mAh that we usually see on smartphones in general.
But numbers do not tell the whole story, and we went for our stress tests. Cycles of 1h, with maximum brightness, using Wi-Fi. Here we note a battery discharge ranging from 20% to 25% of the total charge (per cycle).
That is, it is not the most modest feature of the device that necessarily guaranteed him remarkable energy savings in its operation. The size of the tank also did not help much.
Closing the data on battery, we have in the box a charger of 5v / 2.000 mAh, able to charge the device in little more than an hour.
